YME Families, Students, Staff Members, and Community Members -
As we look forward to the 2020-21 school year, the YME school district is committed to keeping you informed and engaged as we work to reopen schools in the fall. We are developing our plans based upon guidance from the Center for Disease Control, the Minnesota Department of Health guidance, and the Minnesota Department of Education guidance. As you read this letter, we continue our work to prepare as safe a learning environment as possible for the safe return of students and staff members. It is our hope to bring staff and students back in a traditional or a modified classroom learning model with enhanced safety and health protocols in place to begin the school year. Based on the feedback we have received through surveys and individual conversations, we know that for some of you, the thought of returning to school creates fear and anxiety, while for others, the thought of returning to distance learning creates questions around employment, the education of your students and overall educational success of students. We understand each individual’s situation is unique and want to find fair and equitable solutions. Planning and reopening will continue to require a flexible and fluid approach as the information we need to make informed decisions becomes available knowing the information may change between now and September, or even after the school year has started. As we continue to develop the three different scenarios (in-person, hybrid, or distance learning), we work to find solutions that best fit the YME community as a whole. This new territory is very challenging especially since the landscape is ever-changing. But, we know that we are stronger and more effective for students and our community when we work together.
That is why I am announcing several opportunities for families, students, community members, and staff members to drop into zoom meetings to share your thoughts or concerns. This will give us a better sense of your thoughts on our tentative plans. The following three zoom meetings will be available for you:

In Minnesota, it is our nature to make plans. We plan for bad weather, fires, or any number of unexpected scenarios. Having an emergency plan in place helps families be prepared for whatever comes their way. We encourage parents and guardians to take the time now to revisit their emergency plans. Please use this guide with your school communities to help get families started. In the coming weeks and months, we remain committed to keeping you informed on the progress of our work and any changes that may be required. Please continue to watch your email and our website for additional updates.Thank you for your support, flexibility, candid and respectful reflections, and your ongoing commitment to education.
